NOTE: While volunteering for liturgical roles at our weekly Masses is not an extracurricular activity, the information is included in this section to ensure students and families are aware of the opportunities.
A key aspect of our Mission is to nurture the spiritual growth of all students. Therefore, through their theology class, students are invited to volunteer their gifts and talents at our weekly Masses by participating in a variety of liturgical roles. Participation in specific roles is based on eligibility, liturgical guidelines, and pastoral direction.
- Students transform the gym into a sacred space for prayer, following the liturgical season or theme of Mass. For special celebrations, such as the Grandparents Mass, students arrive before school to set up and remain after Mass to assist with cleanup.
- Students who are eligible to serve as lectors spend time practicing the week’s readings and prayers of the faithful.
- Students set up and operate the PowerPoint presentation and sound system.
- Students who are eligible for various liturgical roles can volunteer to serve as extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion, greeters, altar servers, ushers, and gift bearers.
All Mater Dei students are welcome to discuss with their theology teacher the liturgical role(s) for which they prefer to volunteer.
