The administration and faculty are pleased to announce the Students of the Quarter for the second quarter of the 2020-2021 academic year.  These students were selected by the administration and faculty from the list of students who earned high honor roll or honor roll recognition.  Please join us in congratulating them and their families!

 

Senior Spencer Gramann, the son of Ron and Christine Gramann of Breese.  Throughout his academic career, Spencer has enrolled in college-preparatory courses.  For his academic achievements, he received an award for Physical Science A.  Outside the classroom, he is a four-year member of the bowling team and Student Council, for which he received an award as a junior; and a three-year member of National Honor Society.  He also received an award for Science Club as a freshman.  Finally, Spencer is a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church.  Following graduation, in pursuit of his long-term goal of attending the Illinois State Police Academy, he plans to attend Kaskaskia College prior to enrolling at Greenville University.

 

Senior Morgan Oertel, the daughter of Tracy and Kathy Oertel of Germantown.  Throughout her academic career, Morgan has enrolled in nearly all honors courses for English, math, and science, including English Composition 101, English Composition 102, Physics Honors, and Pre-Calculus as a senior.  For her academic achievements, she received an award for Spanish II.  Outside the classroom, Morgan is a four-year member of the basketball team, cross country team, Pep Club, and soccer team; and a three-year member of National Honor Society and Student Council, for which she currently serves as president and received an award as a junior.  Finally, Morgan is a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where she serves as a volunteer for the parish picnic.  Following graduation, she plans to attend Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S & T) and to major in engineering management.

 

Junior John Venhaus, the son of Bob and Carol Venhaus of Breese.  Since his freshman year, John has enrolled in nearly all honors courses for math and science, including Chemistry Honors and Pre-Calculus as a junior.  For his academic achievements, he received awards for Algebra II & Trigonometry Honors and Spanish II.  Outside the classroom, John is a three-year member of the cross country team and the track team; a two-year member of National Honor Society; and a first-year member of Peer Tutors.  For cross country, he was named Most Improved Runner both his sophomore and junior year.  In addition, he is a member of The Loyal Lodge of Ondessonk at Camp Ondessonk.  Finally, John is a member of St. Dominic Catholic Church and Breese Youth Ministry, for which he serves as a confirmation retreat volunteer.

 

Junior Kiersten Kennedy, the daughter of Robert and Staci Kennedy of Mt. Vernon.  Since her freshman year, Kiersten has enrolled in all honors courses for math, including Algebra II & Trigonometry Honors as a junior.  For her academic achievements, she received awards for Biology, English II Honors, Geometry Honors, Spanish I, Spanish II, and Theology II.  Outside the classroom, Kiersten is a three-year member of the soccer team; a two-year member of National Honor Society; and a first-year member of Spanish Club.  Finally, she is a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and The Hill Youth Ministry.

 

Sophomore Jack Heimann, the son of Mark and Rhuann Heimann of Germantown.  In both his freshman and sophomore year, Jack has enrolled in all honors courses for math and science, including Algebra II & Trigonometry Honors and Biology Honors as a sophomore.  Outside the classroom, Jack is a two-year member the baseball team and the basketball team.  In the community, he is a volunteer for Sleep in Heavenly Peace.  Finally, Jack is a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he serves as a volunteer for the parish picnic.

 

Sophomore Carley Emig, the daughter of Colby and Becky Emig of Highland.  In her sophomore year, Carley’s courses include Algebra II & Trigonometry Honors and Biology Honors.  For her academic achievements, she received an award for Geometry.  Outside the classroom, she is a two-year member of concert band, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Teens for Life, the volleyball team, and the yearbook staff.  Finally, Carley is a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and St. Paul Youth Organization.

 

Freshman Eli Kohrmann, the son of Jason and Tina Kohrmann of Germantown.  In his first year at Mater Dei, Eli’s courses include Geometry and Physical Science Honors.  Outside the classroom, he is a member of concert band, marching band, and St. Vincent de Paul Society.  In addition, he is a member of Boy Scouts Troop 225.  Finally, Eli is a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Breese Youth Ministry.

 

Freshman Alayna Benhoff, the daughter of Justin and Pam Benhoff of Carlyle.  In her first year at Mater Dei, Alayna’s courses include English I Honors, Geometry, and Physical Science Honors.  Outside the classroom, she is a member of chorus, Liturgical Music Group, the newspaper staff, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Scholar Bowl, the soccer team, Spanish Club, Student Council, Teens for Life, and the volleyball team.  Finally, Alayna is a member of St. Felicitas Catholic Church, where she serves as an altar server and lector, and Breese Youth Ministry.
