The administration and faculty are pleased to announce the Students of the Quarter for the first quarter of the 2022-2023 academic year.  These students were selected by the administration and faculty from the list of students who earned high honor roll or honor roll recognition.  Please join us in congratulating them and their families!

 

Senior Nolan Ritzheimer, the son of Kyle and Michelle Ritzheimer of Breese.  Throughout his academic career, Nolan has enrolled in numerous honors courses in English and math, including English Composition 101 and English Composition 102 as a senior.  For his academic achievements, he earned an academic letter as a junior and an award for Theology II.  Outside the classroom, Nolan is a four-year member of the cross country team, Pep Club, and track and field team; a three-year member of National Honor Society; and a first-year member of FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America).  Finally, he is a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and Breese Youth Ministry.  Following graduation, Nolan plans to pursue a degree in business, but has not yet selected an educational institution.

 

Senior Madison Bonner, the daughter of Tom and Kendra Bonner of Mt. Vernon.  Throughout her academic career, Madison has enrolled in numerous honors courses in English, math, and science, including English Composition 101 and English Composition 102 as a senior.  For her academic achievements, she has earned recognition as an Illinois State Scholar, an academic letter as a junior, and awards for Biology Honors, Theology II, Drawing and Design, Composition Honors, and Spanish 101.  Outside the classroom, Madison is a four-year member of Art Club, the golf team, the newspaper staff, Scholar Bowl, and the yearbook staff; a three-year member of National Honor Society; and a two-year member of Book Club, Spanish Club, and Teens for Life.  She received the Most Improved Award for golf as a freshman and a Scholar Bowl award as a junior.  Finally, Madison is a member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  Following graduation, she plans to pursue a degree in computer science, but has not yet selected an educational institution.

 

Junior Gabe Schlimme, the son of John and Angie Schlimme of Aviston.  Since his freshman year, Gabe has enrolled in all honors courses for English, math, and science.  As a junior, in addition to American Literature Honors, Composition Honors, Chemistry Honors, and Pre-Calculus, he also enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) American History.  For his academic achievements, Gabe earned an academic letter as a sophomore.  Outside the classroom, he is a three-year member of the baseball team, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), and the football team; a two-year member of National Honor Society; and a first-year member of Chess Club.  Finally, Gabe is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he serves as an usher.

 

Junior Kristen Gerdes, the daughter of Bob and Deb Gerdes of Bartelso.  Since her freshman year, Kristen has enrolled in all honors courses for English, math, and science.  As a junior, in addition to American Literature Honors, Composition Honors, Chemistry Honors, and Pre-Calculus, she also enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) American History.  For her academic achievements, Kristen earned an academic letter as a sophomore and received an award for Spanish I.  Outside the classroom, she is a three-year member of the golf team and a two-year member of National Honor Society and Student Council.  For golf, she received the Most Improved Award as a freshman.  Finally, Kristen is a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, where she serves as a member of the choir.

 

Sophomore Will Rockwell, the son of Shan and Lucy Rockwell of Damiansville.  In both his freshman and sophomore year, Will enrolled in honors courses for science.  This year, in addition to Biology Honors, his courses also include Geometry Honors.  For his academic achievements, Will received an award for Spanish I.  Outside the classroom, he is a two-year member of the soccer team, for which he served as a captain this past season, and the baseball team.  Finally, Will is a member of St. Damian Catholic Church.

 

Sophomore Maris Zurliene, the daughter of Craig and Shelise Zurliene of Aviston.  In both her freshman and sophomore year, Maris enrolled in honors courses for English.  This year, in addition to English II Honors, her courses also include Biology Honors and Geometry Honors.  Outside the classroom, Maris is a two-year member of the basketball team, Pep Club, and the volleyball team; and she plans to join the track and field team.  For basketball, she received the Defense Award as a freshman.  Finally, Maris is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.

 

Freshman Keegan Kohlbrecher, the son of Kevin and Angela Kohlbrecher of Aviston.  In his first year at Mater Dei, Keegan’s courses include Algebra I Honors, English I Honors, and Physical Science Honors.  Outside the classroom, he is a member of Concert Band, the cross country team, FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), Marching Band, Pep Band, and Scholar Bowl; and he plans to join the track and field team.  Finally, Keegan is a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he serves as a lector and server, and St. Francis Catholic Youth Ministry.

 

Freshman Marley Kock, the daughter of Mandi Kock of Carlyle.  In her first year at Mater Dei, Marley’s courses include Algebra I Honors, English I Honors, and Physical Science Honors.  Outside the classroom, she is a member of Book Club, Concert Band, the fall play crew, the newspaper staff, Scholar Bowl, and the yearbook staff.
