Moderator: to be announced
The purpose of Spanish Club is to promote a greater immersion in the culture of people in Spanish speaking countries.
Thus, during meetings, which are held during designated study hall periods, members enjoy a lively environment in which food from Spanish-speaking countries is tasted and games are played. Moreover, when an opportunity arises to experience those cultures firsthand, the club members are encouraged to attend. Finally, the club has two parties a year to celebrate Christmas and Cinco de Mayo.
All Mater Dei students are welcome to join Spanish Club at any time throughout the year.
Latest News for Spanish Club
(from left) Erika Ortiz, Allison Beckmann and Quinn Cutler are pictured with blankets donated to the Spanish Club’s #SPREADTHEWARMTH blanket drive. The blankets will be donated to Highland Area Food Pantry, Relevant Pregnancy Options Center, local nursing homes and a local men’s homeless shelter. We thank our Spanish Club members and moderator Mrs. Andrea Bodinet for hosting the collection.
On Monday, December 12, 2011, Mrs. Bodinet’s Spanish I class and Mr. McNamara’s Spanish II class will join Mr. Wescovich’s Religion III class for a Spanish Mass in the Mater Dei Chapel during period 4/5. Fr. Vince Haselhorst, former pastor at St. Augustine’s in Breese and St. Boniface in Germantown and a native of Trenton, who spent several years in Guatemala working in the diocesan sponsored mission, will be the celebrant.
The Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is a major festival and celebration in the Hispanic culture. Sr. Joan Stoverink, ASC, who works with Hispanic immigrants in the Damiansville area, will also be in attendance. This liturgy and the stories Fr. Vince will share will give Mater Dei students a deeper appreciation of the language and culture of the Hispanic people and a different perspective on the Mass as they experience it completely in Spanish.
